The annual Africa Rail show took place on the 19th and 20th June at the Sandton Convention Centre in Gauteng. This annual exposition showcases products and rail related services from a spread of companies, mainly overseas based. The general objectives are to cater for requirements particular to the southern African railway region, but much on view seemed to concentrate more on overseas products (for example standard gauge rolling stock and locomotives).
The majority of the major players had large stands, with a number of smaller companies filling the sides and top floor. Many of these are new to the local scene, particularly from former the Soviet Union countries. There was a large attendance from the general public, which would not lead to any expected business leads, but at least such visitors would gain some knowledge about the railway industry in general.
The 2020 event will be at the same venue on 30 June and 1 July, so book the dates.
